Police in Akwa Ibom yesterday said they have arrested a middle-aged woman who buried her one-day-old baby in a shallow grave.
The state police commissioner, Mr Gabriel Achong, who made the revelation in Uyo during his maiden chat with journalists, said the woman, Patience Sunday was arrested at Afaha Abia village in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
Achong decried the attitude of some mothers who just give birth to babies without adequate preparation for their care.
He explained that the woman was arrested by the police after a tip off from a good Samaritan in the area.
The police commissioner, therefore, advised youths in the state, especially girls, to always exercise caution in their dealing with men to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
Achong who regretted the current high level of moral decadence among children, urged parents to watch the movement of their girl- child in order to avoid unpleasant consequences.
